Pursuant to Wis. Stat. § 70.45 of Wis. Statutes the City of Shullsburg assessment roll for the Year 2026 assessment will be open for examination on the 27^th day of April 2026, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the Shullsburg Community Townsend Center, 190 N Judgement Street. Additionally, the assessor will be available at that time to discuss your assessment.

Instructional material will be provided at the open book to persons who wish to object to valuations under Wis. Stat. § 70.47.

Notice of Board of Review

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that the Board of Review for the City of Shullsburg, Lafayette County, Wisconsin, shall reconvene May 6, 2026 at 5:30 p.m. in the Community Room of the Shullsburg Community Townsend Center, 190 N. Judgement Street, Shullsburg, Wisconsin.  You must contact the City Clerk to make an appointment at 608-965-4424 before May 1, 2025.

Please be advised of the following requirements to appear before the Board of Review and procedural requirements if appearing before the Board:

1. After the first meeting of the Board of Review and before the Board’s final adjournment, no person who is scheduled to appear before the Board of Review may contact or provide information to a member of the Board about the person’s objection, except at a session of the Board of Review. Open Book shall occur no less than 7 days prior to the Board of Review.
2. The Board of Review may not hear an objection to the amount or valuation of property unless, at least 48 hours before the Board of Review’s first scheduled meeting, the objector provides to the Board of Review Clerk written or oral notice of an intent to file an objection, except that upon a showing of good cause and the submission of a written objection, the Board of Review shall waive that requirement within the first 2 hours of the Board of Review’s first scheduled meeting, and the Board of Review may waive that requirement up to the end of the 5^th day of the session or up to the end of the final day of the session if the session is less than 5 days with proof of extraordinary circumstances for failure to meet the 48-hour notice requirement and failure to appear before the Board of Review during the first 2 hours of the first scheduled meeting.
3. Objections to the amount or valuation of property shall be made in writing and filed with the Board of Review Clerk within the first 2 hours of the Board of Review’s first scheduled meeting, except that, upon evidence of extraordinary circumstances, the Board of Review may waive this requirement up to the end of the 5^th day of the session or up to the end of the final day of the session if the session is less than 5 days. The Board of Review may require objections to the amount or valuation of property to be submitted on forms approved by the Department of Revenue, and the Board of Review shall require that any forms include stated valuations of the property in question.  Persons who own land and improvements to that land may object to the aggregate valuation of that land and improvements to that land, but no person who owns land and improvements to that land may object only to the valuation of that land or only to the valuation of improvements to that land.  No person may be allowed in any action or proceedings to question the amount or valuation of property unless the written objection has been filed and that person in good faith presented evidence to the Board of Review in support of the objections and made full disclosure before the Board of Review, under oath, of all of that person’s property liable to assessment in the district and the value of that property.  The requirement that objections be in writing may be waived by express action of the Board.
4. When appearing before the Board of Review, the objecting person shall specify in writing the person’s estimate of the value of the land and of the improvements that are the subject of the person’s objection and specify the information that the person used to arrive at that estimate.
5. No person may appear before the Board of Review, testify to the Board of Review or by telephone, or object to a valuation, if that valuation was made by the Assessor or the Objector using the income method of valuation, unless the person supplies the assessor with all the information about income and expenses, that the assessor requests, as specified in the Assessor’s manual under §73.03(2a), Wis. Stats. The City of Shullsburg has an Ordinance for the confidentiality of information about income and expenses that is provided to the Assessor under this paragraph which provides exceptions for persons using information in the discharge of duties imposed by law or the duties of their officer or by order of a court.  The information that is provided under this paragraph, unless a court determines that it is inaccurate, is not subject to the right of inspection and copying under Wis. Stat §19.35(1).
6. The Board shall hear upon oath, by telephone, all ill or disabled persons who present to the Board of Review a letter from a physician, surgeon, or osteopath that confirms their illness or disability. No other persons may testify by telephone unless the Board of Review, in its discretion, has determined to grant a property owner’s or their representative’s request to testify under oath by telephone or written statement.
7. No person may appear before the Board of Review, testify to the Board of Review by telephone, or contest the amount of any assessment unless, at least 48 hours before the first meeting of the Board of Review or at least 48 hours before the objection is heard if the objection is allowed under Wis. Stat. §70.47(3)(a), that person provides notice to the Board of Review Clerk as to whether the person will ask for removal of a member of the Board of Review and, if so, which member, and provides a reasonable estimate of the length of time the hearing will take.
8. No person shall be allowed to appear before the board of review, to testify to the board by telephone or to contest the amount of any assessment of real or personal property if the person has refused a reasonable written request by certified mail of the assessor to enter onto property to conduct an exterior view of the real or personal property being assessed.

The City of Shullsburg will be having a cleanup day on Saturday, May 9, 2026. A dumpster will be placed at the burning grounds from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for CITY RESIDENTS ONLY. An attendant will be present and the following items will NOT be accepted:

• Batteries
• Oil
• Tires
• Appliances
• Paint
• Construction/Building Material
• All Electronics-Including but not limited to: Computers, Printers, Computer Monitors, Mice, Keyboards, Televisions, DVD Players, VCR’s, DVR’s, Fax Machines, Cell phones and all accessories

Dumpsters will be available at the burning grounds on Sunday only if they are not full on Saturday.

The City of Shullsburg, Wisconsin is soliciting sealed bids for the construction of a 50’x 80’ post frame building. The City will provide all materials. The bid is for labor only. The selected applicant will be responsible for adhering to all applicable codes, regulations and safety standards. Bid submission must be made on the required bid form. Bids will be received via email to clerktreasurer@cityofshullsburg.org or at the Clerk’s office at 190 N. Judgement Street, Shullsburg, Wisconsin 53586 until 10:00 a.m. on April 9, 2026; and then at said office publicly opened and read aloud. The City of Shullsburg reserves the right to accept or reject any or all bids. Bids may be awarded at the April 21, 2026 City Council meeting.

Operational Change: Right-Side Roadway Collection

To prioritize the safety of our drivers and service personnel, Republic Services has standardized all routes to exclusively collect materials from the right side of the roadway.

• Safety First: Drivers and collection staff are instructed not to cross lanes of traffic to service containers or collect bags. This minimizes the risk of incidents on public roads.
• Route Efficiency: Materials will be collected as the truck travels along the designated side of the street.
• Alternate Side Collection: If residents observe our trucks passing their location without collection, please advise them not to be concerned. Our vehicles service one side of the road at a time and will return shortly to collect the alternate side when it is positioned on the right of the truck’s path.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we implement these important safety enhancements.

Collection of tires and appliances will be according to the following guidelines:

• Each residential household is responsible for calling the City Clerk’s office to schedule the pickup service, at least one day prior to scheduled pickup.
• All tires and appliances for collection would need to be placed at curbside.
• Residents will be responsible for the cost of the tire and appliance recycling with payment being made to the city prior to collection.
• Charges are as follows:
  • Car tires – $5.00 each
  • Car tires on rim – $10.00 each
  • Washers, dryers, dishwashers and stoves – $15.00 each
  • Microwaves – $20.00 each
  • Refrigerator, freezer, air conditioner and dehumidifiers – $30.00

Summer Employment Positions 

Pool Manager:  Responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the municipal pool; supervising and scheduling of the pool staff; maintaining the daily and seasonal attendance records and concession sales; maintaining a clean environment, including bathhouse, restrooms, pool area and outside area. The manager is directly accountable to the Park Committee. Some certifications will be required. The work schedule is flexible but must be available 7 days per week. Wage-TBD

Assistant Pool Manager– Assume the duties of the pool manager, when manager is not on duty.  Assist with the staff scheduling, teach swim lessons and work with other city staff to keep the pool safe and clean. Must have the following certifications: Lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid, Water Safety Instructor.  Wage- TBD

Lifeguards– Lifeguard during pool open hours. Must have the following certifications: lifeguard, CPR and first aid. Water Safety Instructor certification preferred but not necessary. Must be at least 15 years of age. Wage TBD

Bathhouse Attendant– Duties include, but not limited to, registering persons for daily pool use, selling concessions and maintaining a clean and safe pool area including bathrooms and changing rooms. Any other duties as reasonably assigned by the pool manager. Wage- TBD

Park Maintenance Worker– Duties include but not limited to mowing and trimming of grass in all city parks and facilities. Assist the park director with maintenance of park facilities and playground equipment. Any other duties as reasonably assigned. Must be at least 16 years old and able to operate and maintain lawn care equipment.  Wage- TBD

Swim Team Coach – Duties include but are not limited to managing the day-to-day operations of the swim team program and coaching the youth swimmers; Must supervise and schedule Swim Team practices, organize and host home meets, ensure lifeguards are on duty for practices and meets; Must be able to work with and communicate effectively with youth and parents. Must work with Pool Manager to ensure the Pool is operated safely and efficiently. Wage – TBD.

The City of Shullsburg Burning Grounds is closed for the season as of December 6, 2025 due to expected snow, ice and cold temperatures.

• Alternate Side Parking is in effect city-wide with the exceptions listed below.
• Alternate Side Parking is in effect from November 1 – April 1, seven days a week, regardless of weather conditions.
• Park on the EVEN house numbered side of the street on even numbered days from 12:00 am – 7:00 am.
