Tax Incentive Programs
Shullsburg works in cooperation with the Wisconsin Department of Commerce to offer business owners and developers three valuable tax incentive programs. All three work differently and toward different goals, but each either reduces income tax liability or allocates property tax revenue to encourage business development.
TAX INCREMENTAL FINANCING:
Shullsburg is among Southwestern Wisconsin’s most progressive communities in its use of tax incremental financing, or TIF. TIF is an incredibly valuable tool that enables communities and businesses to finance infrastructural improvements affordably. Shullsburg has three active TIF Districts that assist with retail, industrial and housing development. Learn more about Shullsburg’s TIF Districts, how TIF works and how it can help your business.
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ZONE CREDITS:
Shullsburg is located in a state designated Community Development Zone, or CDZ. For those looking to relocate to Wisconsin, or to start or expand a business that’s already here, CDZ tax credits can offer substantial savings against Wisconsin Income Tax liability. The CDZ Program is administered by the Wisconsin Department of Commerce, and offers tax savings based on job creation and for reimbursement of certain environmental remediation expenses. For more information, check out the Department of Commerce’s fact sheet, or contact Peggy Burke at the Department of Commerce.
AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT ZONE CREDITS:
Lafayette County, including the rich farm land surrounding Shullsburg, lies within a state-designated Agricultural Development Zone. $5 million dollars in tax credits have been allocated for the attraction, promotion, retention and expansion of agricultural businesses within this zone. Check out the Department of Commerce’s fact sheet or contact Peggy Burke, at the Department of Commerce for more information.
